Alcohol labelling watchdog upholds two complaints: The Portman Group has upheld a complaint about ‘Radler’, Lemon, Grapefruit and Pineapple Beer on the basis that the word beer and ABV declaration, health warnings etc were insufficient to overcome the emphasis given to the fruit flavourings which gave the impression of the product being a soft drink. The complaints panel did not accept that the description ‘Radler’ was a sufficiently well-known name for this type of product. View >
Government to take forward review of publication requirements for licence applications: The Department for Business and Trade has published an amendment to its response to the Licensing review to say that it will look at publication requirements around licensing and other areas as part of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport’s upcoming Local Media Strategy. US Food and Drinks Administration to reduce legal sugar content for orange juice: The USFDA has launched a consultation on reducing the current Brix dissolved sugar content requirements for pasteurised orange juice from 10.5% to 10% in a move that appears to have US industry support. Responses to the consultation are requested by 4th November. (The UK and EU legal minimum standard is currently 11.2%) View >
