Competition and Markets Authority fails in bid to get enforcement order on reference pricing: The Competition and Markets Authority had sought an enforcement order under section 217 of the Enterprise Act 2002 in the High Court with regard to reference price comparison activity of Emma Sleep essentially seeking to enforce a 1:2 fixed volume sales standard for considering a claimed comparison to be valid. In a detailed judgment the High Court noted that CMA accepted that a number of qualifications needed to be built into the fixed volume ratio formula e.g. in respect of clearance sales.
The High Court found that Emma Sleep had infringed the law in relation to a number of admitted breaches, but did not make further findings of infringement and invited the CMA and Emma Sleep to work together to agree the terms of a further order. Food businesses, lobby groups and health bodies call on the PM to introduce a ‘Good Food Bill’: Over 100 food businesses and organisations with an interest in diet, food health and environment have written a joint letter to the Prime Minister calling for the introduction of a ‘Good Food Bill’. The aims of those requesting the Bill are to strengthen food security, improve public health and build a more resilient food system and create long-term accountability for government action on food. Call for evidence issued on unauthorised transaction fraud: The Home Office is seeking evidence on fraudulent transactions are made without the victim’s knowledge or consent (unlike fraud where the victim is deceived into making the transaction). In 2025, criminals conducted 3.81 million unauthorised fraud transactions, resulting in £703.4 million in losses.
