Food Standards Agency consult on listeriosis guidance for Health care settings: The FSA has issued a consultation on revised guidance for health and social care providers on reducing the risk to vulnerable people from Listeriosis. The updates were based on findings derived from the survey of health and social care setting food businesses on implementation of the FSA listeriosis guidance and feedback from Local Authorities and District Councils. Amongst other changes the list of listeria risky foods has been amended - Responses are required by 16 December. View >
Advertising watchdog upholds complaints about ‘Eat nuts – live longer’ and related cholesterol reduction health claims: The Advertising Standards Authority has upheld a complaint regarding claims made by Whitworths Ltd for Pecan nuts and Nuts in general on Instagram. The Advertising Standards Authority held that claims Eat nuts / pecans – and live longer breached the code as they were not authorised claims appearing in the GB Register of approved nutrition and health claims. In respect of the claims “pecans can help lower cholesterol”, “regular nut consumption is linked to a lower risk of heart disease and premature death” the ASA noted that there are no claims authorised on the GB NHC Register that related to pecans, or nuts in general, and extended life expectancy. Grocery Code Adjudicator publishes information on its funding model for 2026/2027: The Grocery Code Adjudicator has published its funding model for 2026/2027 as agreed by the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation, Science and Technology. The Budget of £3.5 million is to be raised from the 14 retail businesses subject to the code with a quarter of the cost being allocated to businesses on the amount of work they cause to the adjudicator. Fees per business range from £222k to £454k. View >
Competition and Markets Authority impose fines for obstruction during inspection: The CMA has issued a press release highlighting a business inspection where a mobile phone and documentation was hidden from its officers. A Fine of £25k was levied under the Competition Act 1998 on the business and penalties of £20k and £5k on the individuals concerned for ordering and physically removing a mobile phone and paperwork from the business premises during the inspection.
